Barclays £25 million sponsorship of the Cycle Hire Scheme could herald an expansion into the Isle of Dogs and outer London, Mayor Boris Johnson told LCC.

Details of the £25 million, five-year sponsorship for the Cycle Hire Scheme and the Cycle Superhighways were announced at an event at City Hall on 28 May 2010.

The mayor told LCC:

"We're very keen to work with Barclays to put in a second phase out towards the Olympics, out towards the Barclays office in the Isle of Dogs, and spread it to East London, and then to see if we can get it in outer London too."

Transport for London also announced that the nine London boroughs in which Cycle Hire will operate have been given 50 bikes to provide cycle training for local people.
