Bike maintenance workshop for secondary school children

Wednesday 15th January saw our first London Cycling Mechanics workshop of the year take place at Haydon School, Pinner.

Our Cycling Projects team had been liaising with the school for a number of months, providing advice and assistance for the best way for Haydon School to spend their £3000 TfL grant for cycle equipment.

Bicycles and accessories were purchased for 12 students in Years 8 and 9 from local retailer Northwood Cycles, and our mechanics provided 4 hours of hands on basic bike maintenance  lessons and our fun parts naming game - essential for learning how to keep their new bikes in good working order!

Once the morning session was finished, it was off to the sports hall for a photoshoot, and to meet Leon Daniels, Surface Transport Director for TfL who officially presented the bikes to the students.

LCC and LB Hillingdon can provide extra cycle training sessions for those who feel they need a refresher before getting out on the road.

The school were so pleased with the session, they're planning to run another maintenance workshop for staff in the near future.
