Cycles on cars

Be careful that your bike does not obscure your lights or number plate

If you use a rack attached to the back of a car to carry your bicycle, you must ensure that you can still see properly and that the lights and number plate are not obscured.

Racks that fit the roof or boot/ rear door of a car are available from bike shops. You should be aware that many, if not all, insurance companies will not cover you for theft of your cycle from a car rack – some racks provide limited locking facilities.

Many companies refuse to cover you even if your cycle is inside the car, unless it is in a locked boot or the enclosed windowless compartment of a locked vehicle,
completely obscured from view.
