HGV awareness days in Richmond Park

A series of cyclist/HGV awareness days took place in Richmond Park to highlight the potential dangers of heavy goods vehicles to cyclists and pedestrians.

The events, organised by the Metropolitan Police along with MAN UK and DHL, gave people the opportunity sit in the cab of both an articulated lorry and a rigid lorry, so they could see the road from the driver's position.

Encouraging understanding between road users

The lorries were stationed at Roehampton Gate Car Park in Richmond Park on Saturday 28th June, Saturday 19th July and, most recently, on Saturday 9th August.

LCC communications officer Mike Cavenett said, "Events like this encourage empathy: being able to put ourselves in the position of fellow road users. LCC welcomes all kinds of events that foster better understanding across road users."
