HGV event educates cyclists

Several HGVs were parked in Trafalgar Square on 19 August 2009 in a high-profile attempt spread awareness to cyclists of the dangers of lorries.

The event, organised by the Metropolitan Police and supported by LCC and Transport for London, mirrored several similar lorry demonstrations in the City over the last 12 months.

LCC communications officer Mike Cavenett said, "Demos like this have their place in raising awareness, and there are few locations more high profile than Trafalgar Square.

"However, LCC would like to see more emphasis being placed on lorry driver training. We'd like Lambeth Council's driver-awareness programme to be implemented by every borough in Greater London."
