Bike Week in Islington continued in great style today with ICAG's successful Cyclists' Breakfast held close to Angel at City Road.
Numbers of cyclists served with a free breakfast were up by 33 per cent to a record 140. And that does not include the 'waiter service' offered by Chris Ashby to those who were too busy to dismount - cakes on a tray for cycling commuters!
We were joined by no less than three local politicians - Mayor of Islington Councillor Jonathan Dearth, who took his turn to serve up breakfasts, new MP for Islington South Emily Thornberry, and Executive Councillor George Allan. All arrived on their bikes.
Huge demand for information
Nearly 700 cycle maps, guides, booklets and leaflets were taken away from our information stall proving there is a huge demand for more resources even among regular cyclists. LCC booklets and Rough Guides to London cycling were particularly in demand.
Many thanks to our team of volunteers: Andrew Cornwell, Alison Dines, Doug Angus, Chris Ashby, Anja Beinroth, Dean Leigh and Keith Macfarlane.
And once again thanks to Islington Council for their support - it was good to see Council Officers Eric Manners and Martijn Cooijmans at the breakfast and handing out LCC membership leaflets.
