LCC launches extended programme of cycle training for over-50s
For 2011, LCC is pleased to announce an expanded programme of cycle training for the over-50s, with funding from the Bicycle Association and borough councils.
The Agewell On Wheels courses cost just £10, and take place in four locations (see below) across London, and are available to over-50s from these boroughs:
Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Southwark.
Gwen Cook, the cycling instructor who led the 2008 Agewell pilot in Hammersmith and Fulham said, "These excellent courses encourage older people back onto their bicycles.
"It's great to know people from the first courses are still riding around London, having gained confidence and improved their fitness.”
Each course provides a half-day's training per week for five weeks, with the first course starting on 11 May 2011 (full details below).
Courses start with off-road skills, and then progress to riding on normal streets; participants can be supplied with bikes if needed.
LCC chief executive Ashok Sinha said, "Cycling is an excellent choice for over-50s looking for fun and convenient ways to stay healthy and active.
"Many people in their 50s have ridden a bike before, and the Agewell courses are a friendly and supportive way to get back into cycling."
11 May – 8 June
11 June – 9 July
28 July – 25 August
Courses cost £10 per person, and run at all four locations on all the above dates:
