One million Cycle Hire journeys show massive appetite for London cycling

photo London’s Cycle Hire scheme has hit the million-journey milestone just 10 weeks after its launch.

The Cycle Hire scheme has recorded its millionth journey, just over two months after it was introduced with nearly 6000 bikes and 400 docking stations across Zone 1.

Transport for London said, "The incredible enthusiasm with which Londoners have embraced Barclays Cycle Hire has seen more than 90,000 people already sign up as members, making around 20,000 journeys on the iconic blue bicycles every week day."

LCC's Mike Cavenett said, "Decision-makers should see the succcess as a massive indicator of the latent demand for cycling in the city.

"They should respond by creating conditions where cyclists of all abilities- including those using their own bikes - feel safe and secure every day."
