By cycling to school, children are becoming healthier and helping the environment. Cutting car use on the school run reduces congestion, making the roads safer for all. By providing secure cycle parking schools are demonstrating their commitment to encouraging children to cycle.
Funding for cycle parking for educational institutions will generally be available through local authorities. Some boroughs run safer routes to school programmes, or there may be a school travel plan officer you can speak to; otherwise speak to the councils cycling officer.
Case Study: Christ Church primary school cycle parking.
As part of its Green Travel Plan the school has provided a covered cycle parking area for up to 50 children's bicycle spaces and up to 8 adult bicycle spaces.
