Second hand bicycles

If you buy a bicycle that has been stolen you are supporting the trade in stolen bicycles and buying someone's much missed bike, but you also risk the owner, or a bike shop, recognising and reclaiming it, at which point you will be left out of pocket and without a bicycle.
If you are buying a second hand bicycle and you find a postcode stamped on the underside it is worth checking with the police to see if they have recorded it stolen, or if someone is just selling their old bike on. Many of the registration schemes will sell the registration on and this can be a good way to know you are not buying stolen property.
