Summer of Cycling heralds fresh era of cooperation among cycling organisations and businesses
The Summer of Cycling is an umbrella promotion by 23 cycling organisations (including the London Cycling Campaign), to help grow cycling in the UK in 2012.
At its official launch at the House of Commons on 14 March 2012 it stated its clear aim of asking every person who attends a cycling event this summer to bring one friend along.
Cycling clubs, campaign groups, cycling businesses and charities will unite behind the '+1' ethos and the logo that symbolises unity and activity in pursuit of a better cycling experience for everyone in the UK.
The Summer of Cycling coalition and is open to all organisations, businesses, clubs, magazines and individuals.
Downloadable logos have now been placed on the website's holding page, with some more material due very soon.
As well as LCC, those taking part include British Cycling, CTC, Sustrans, Cycling Scotland, the Bicycle Association, Bike Week, Transport for London, the Association of Cycle Traders, Brompton, Halfords, Tour of Britain, Cyclenation, and the Cycle to Work Alliance.
Phillip Darnton, vice president of the Bicycle Association, said: "2012 ought to be year we sell more bikes than ever before, the year more kids get cycle trained than ever before.
"More children should be cycling to school than ever before, and after the Olympics, more people than ever before should be lining the roads to watch the Tour of Britain."
