Sutton shoppers rewarded for green behaviour

Green shoppers are being rewarded for leaving their cars at home by Sutton Council’s Walk Cycle Reward scheme.

The scheme is offered on different dates between June and August in Rosehill, Worcester Park, Wallington and Carshalton.

Reward cards offering a 10% discount were delivered to thousands of homes across Sutton, and are available from participating shops. Three stamps earns a reuseable shopping bag and a full card earns entry into a £100 prize draw.

Shop discounts for cycle shoppers
Sutton’s executive member for environment, Councillor Colin Hall, said, “We want more people to leave their cars at home and opt for greener ways of getting around the borough.

“Our research shows many people pop to the shops by car even when they are just a short distance away.

“Thanks to Smarter Travel Sutton we're seeing huge changes in the way people travel to work and school. More people are cycling and using public transport than ever.

Extra push will change shopping habits
“This reward is about giving people the extra push to change the way they get to the shops too.”

In Sutton, 12 shops took part in the scheme, jointly from Sutton Council and Transport for London.
