Talking Heads' singer David Byrne raises over £1000 for LCC

David Byrne, legendary front man of the band Talking Heads and successful solo musician, has raised £1,370 for LCC by auctioning his bike on eBay.

The winning bidder beat 20 others for the blue Montague folding bike on 16 August 2009.

Mr Byrne said, "The bike has been around the world about four times and, surprisingly, it's all still working, though it's scratched up, rusty in spots and there are pieces of travel stickers all over the center post.

"If I were a sentimental guy, the bike would hold sentimental value, but I'd rather have the cash to donate to the London Cycling Campaign."

LCC chief executive Koy Thomson said, "A bicycle can free the mind and body. It can fire up new experiences and create a more liveable city for everybody. David’s bicycle has been at the centre of an amazing multi-continent Odyssey and we're delighted to be part of that journey."

A spokesperson for Faber & Faber said, "The bike comes with a certificate verifying this is David Byrne's bicycle supplied for auction to raise money for the London Cycling Campaign."
