Time is ticking for you to apply for community cycling grants
Do you have an idea to promote cycling in your local community? You’re still on time.
Applications for a £5K grant or a ‘top up’ £500 grant to promote community cycling are welcome until the 23 September. The Community Cycling Fund for London is funded by Transport for London and administered by London Cycling Campaign.
Check this video for a selection of CCFL's projects that contributed to get Londoners from all backgrounds on bikes last year:
Another of the successful projects in the 10 years CCFL has been running is The Ace of Clubs’ Bicycle Club which was developed to support those who are homeless, vulnerable and otherwise marginalised in Lambeth to learn a new trade, become employable and reconnect with their community by teaching them mechanics skills and organising bike rides to build up their cycling confidence. The Club also facilitated access to bikes as an affordable means of transport.
With the CCCFL funding The Ace Bicycle Club was able to equip their existing bike workshop with all the necessary tools to rebuild bikes to professional standards and train volunteers and members of the community.
Neil Thompson, one of the beneficiaries said: ‘I got my bike from the Ace Bicycle Club in 2011. It was a donated bicycle which was rebuilt for me. I made a donation which was appropriate to my financial means. It has made a big difference to my health and travel costs. I also feel more positive and happy to travel this way. We will soon be doing cycle maintenance classes which will help me maintain my bike. The bike workshop has been a valuable place in this community and is going from strength to strength’
