September 22 is designated each year as World Carfree Day. Every year, road closures and other events are organised in towns and cities across the world, including London.
By closing a road to motor traffic for the day, we get a glimpse of how much everyone's quality of life would be improved with less noise and air pollution. The road becomes a lively, convivial spot to spend the day, with on-street cafes, performances and other fun activities instead of the usual streams of traffic.
Carfree Day events are published on this website a few weeks in advance of 22 September each year.
Follow the link on the right for more information on events across the world on World Carfree Day. Information on Carfree Day events can be found each year in our very popular members’ magazine, London Cyclist. Join LCC today to get this sent straight to your door every 2 months.
