Letter of protest to the mayor regarding olympic towpath closures:

Hi All,

There's a letter of protest to the mayor about the unnessecary, over the top and illogical closure of canal towpaths near the olympic park for the duration of the olympics (and extra time each way). These make fantastic leisure cylcing routes, with amazing views of the olympic park, and I think many people commute on them too. Not to mention they are a good off road route for environmentally friendly visits to the olympic park via foot and cycle. Apparently though a 6 meter high electric fence with CCTV coverage isn't going to stop the terrorists getting in that way (because the terrorists would never just buy a ticket and go in the front gate... :s), so they've closed the paths. This is worse than the games lanes and closures in places like Hyde park because you can't just get off and walk round them, the routes are completely closed.

I'd encourage everyone, therefore, to sign the letter of protest here: http://openourtowpath.wordpress.com/letter-to-the-mayor/ and try and get this madness sorted out.

Quite frankly there are few organisations in this city I hate more that LOCOG at the moment, for a number of reasons.

EDIT: It's on the LCC blog too, but they don't mention the letter there - http://lcc.org.uk/articles/lea-tow-path-closed
