This Lewisham Cyclists ride is going to the Forestry Commission’s Bedgebury Forest, near Tunbridge Wells, for a try-out circuit of their entertaining 15km mountain biking single track. We’ll take the off-road sections steadily and re-group regularly. It is a ‘red’ run with a fair number of roots, a few modest drops and some short steep hills, most of which can be avoided or walked, but it’s probably not for timid riders. The forest has dried out somewhat since winter, but there are still likely to be muddy bits, so come dressed appropriately! For those that don’t own a mountain bike you can hire one on the day from Quench Cycles at Bedgebury – 3hrs for £20, which should be more than enough time to get round the course. If bringing your own mountain bike you will need to have knobbly tyres on it to safely negotiate the single track. There’s a café at Bedgebury for lunch, but bring some snacks and water for the ride as we will be eating after the MTB ride. Travel details: Meet Ladywell Station forecourt at 09:15 for 09:28 train to London Bridge. Changing onto the 09:49 Ramsgate train to Marden. From Marden Station it’s a 13km road ride to Bedgebury via the pretty village of Goudhurst on top of a big (unavoidable!) hill. Anticipated return back to Ladywell around 5pm.
