IBikeLondon Ride: Check out the view!
London is one of the most cosmopolitan and vibrant cities in the world with a beautiful and varied cityscape. From the heart of the city it is difficult to take in the vastness of our dear capital and so IBikeLondon have organised a ride that will tour some of the best vantage points that London has to offer. Whilst the ride does have steep sections it is suitable for all riders and whether you tackle the hills head on or at a slower pace the IBikeLondon group will always be waiting at the top.
We will be meeting in front of the Achilles statue in Hyde Park at 10:30am (the nearest tube is Hyde Park Corner on the Piccadilly Line) with the aim to start the ride at 11:00am. The ride will be predominantly flat, apart from one hill in Highgate, and covers a distance of 19 miles (30km).
After departing Hyde Park we will ride toward Paddington Station where we will meet Regent’s canal. The canal will lead us north to Primrose Hill; the location of our first fantastic view point of London. We will ascend to the peak of Primrose Hill, take in the breath taking view, and then head toward Hampstead Heath. At Hampstead Heath there will be a tough climb to the top of Parliament Hill toward Highgate Village, which can be tackled by bike or by foot at whatever pace is desired. The group will pause in Highgate village to recollect all cyclists and then we will journey to the beautiful Alexandra Palace; the location of our second awe-inspiring vantage points. The peloton will then pedals toward Highgate woods and onto Parkland Walk, a nature reserve path, which will lead the group into Finsbury Park. Finally, cyclists will head back toward Regent’s canal, through Clissold Park, ending up at the pub in Camden; the Star of Kings.
Some parts of the route will be bumpy and possibly a bit muddy so we would advise cyclists not to wear their Sunday best. Also, as there are step sections of the ride we ask all cyclists to ensure that their brakes are in good order.
