UPDATE

Since announcing this ride there has been a change to the times of trains. It now appears that the most convenient service is the 9.20 am from Bromley South.

Accordingly the start / meeting time has been adjusted to 9.00 am which will give us plenty of time to get our tickets.

This means that the departure from St Alban’s will be closer to 11. 00 am.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will meet at Bromley South 08.30 am and buy tickets etc. (Please see below for ticketing info.). Depending on how many turn up we will catch the train(s) as detailed. (It is probably reasonable to expect to get 8 cyclists onto one service at this time of day. We may get more but I have prepared the travel on this basis).

Train to St Albans 08.52 09.20 from Bromley South to London Blackfriars, arrive 9.23 09.53 Platform 2. Quick transfer to Platform 4 for the 9.26 09.59 to St. Albans, arriving 10.07 10.38.

(This service has calling points which may be useful to some riders). Group savers tickets £7.00 - £10.00 pp depending on numbers travelling.

We will grab a coffee on route as we would like to set off immediately we reach St. Albans.

Cycle to Bromley via the Lea Valley 10.15am we will leave St. Albans by-passing Hertford and head through some quiet country lanes to Broxbourne (c.15-17 mls)

From Broxbourne we will take the path along the Lea Valley to Waltham Abbey (c.8-10 mls). Somewhere along this section we will find somewhere to have lunch (you may choose to bring a picnic if you wish).

From Waltham Abbey we will continue along the river to North Greenwich(c.23 mls).Stop for afternoon tea/ice cream somewhere along this bit.

Then it's through the Greenwich foot tunnel to theWaterlink Way and back to Bromley South. (c.8 mls):

This is an all day ride and it will be dark by the time we reach Bromley so please BRING LIGHTS.

The ride will follow rivers all the way from Broxbourne so should be relatively flat. The River Lea runs into the Thames, so from Broxbourne it is definitely downhill. This is all on either road or high quality cycleways with perhaps the exception of a short section along a disused rail line between St Albans and Colney which is a bit lumpy)

Please bring a spare inner tube (or two) and maybe a snack or two.

YOU WILL DEFINITELY NEED LIGHTS IF YOU ARRIVE WITHOUT THEM, FOR SAFETY REASONS, WE WILL HAVE TO TURN YOU AWAY.

I think we saw you cycling through Hatfield today as we parked our tandem at the Galleria and noticed yours.  Hope you enjoyed the now super smooth Alban Way from St Albans to Hatfield.
