Cyclist killed in collision with lorry in Southall following pedestrian fatality in Redbridge

A male cyclist died on Thursday morning the 9th of November 2017  in South Road in Southall following a collision with a lorry. This follows the death of an elderly pedestrian in a collision with an HGV on Wednesday in Redbridge. LCC sends its condolences to the families of both victims.

At a candle-lit vigil for the victims of road crashes held on the 8th of November in Islington, where cyclist Jerome Rousell died in May, there were repeated calls for reduced road danger and safer vehicles. Speaking at the event, organised by the Stop Killing Cyclists group,  LCC’s chair Terry Patterson called on the Mayor and London boroughs to deliver the  promised tripling of protected space for cycling, improve conditions for pedestrians and make lorries without blind spots the London standard.

Local Islington resident Chris Keyon made an impassioned plea for social justice and the right of everyone, and children in particualr,  to walk or ride in safe road conditions. He called on Islington Council to do more to provide protected space for people who cycle.
