Cyclists call for '3 feet please' minimum passing law

A new campaign urging drivers to give cyclists at least 3 feet when passing has been launched by David Love, LCC Trustee and Vice Chair.

"Fear of traffic is by far the greatest deterrent to new cyclists. Motor vehicles pass cyclists too closely too often," Love said.

"By advising drivers to 'give cyclists as much room as you would a car' the Highway Code ignores the obvious difference between the two.

France and parts of the USA have the law
"The law must better address the needs of cyclists by establishing three feet as a mandatory minimum safe passing distance, following the example set in France and 15 US states.

To those that think three feet is not enough, I say it's a realistic minimum, and that this number is much better than none at all."
