Cyclists shun insurance firms that misinform media about cyclists

Cyclists are shunning leading insurance companies that have been accused of misrepresenting cyclists to the national media.

Several cyclists are reported to have cancelled premiums with Liverpool-Victoria (LV=) after the company distributed a press release that massively distorted the evidence on cycling safety, and was described as "Mickey Mouse research" by leading experts.

The press release was immediately refuted by LCC, CTC and, later, by the Bad Science column in The Guardian newspaper (see the link below).

Unfortunately, the story was still picked up by news websites and national TV in a manner likely to discourage cycling and cause ill-will towards cyclists.
