LCC has welcomed the news that 13 outer London boroughs will receive an extra £25,000 from TfL this year to create cycling strategies.

As part of their applications, each borough had to show council commitment to cycling. It’s hoped these ‘Biking Boroughs’ will lay down a framework through which they’ll increase spending on cycling over the next few years.

In a change from the previous years, from 2010 all London boroughs will have a proportion of their transport budget they can spend any way they like, within the bounds of the mayor’s Transport Strategy. Previously, money for cycling was ring-fenced.

LCC campaigns manager Tom Bogdanowicz said, “LCC will be lobbying the boroughs to allocate necessary the funding to make the outer London cycling strategies a reality by working with local cyclists.”
