London Cycling Awards 2007

The London Cycling Awards 2007 have been launched and we are inviting nominations for the capital’s best cycling initiatives.

The awards, run by LCC, aim to recognise and celebrate the greatest contributions to increasing and enhancing cycling in the capital. Anyone can nominate a cycling project or facility for an award.

The categories for this year’s nominations are:

  • Best Cycle Facility

  • Best Community Cycling Initiative

  • Best Cycling Initiative for Young People or Children

  • Best Workplace Cycling Initiative.

“It might be an employer who has launched an innovative scheme to get people cycling or it could be a project to help children gain confidence on their bikes,” said Tom Bogdanowicz, campaigns manager at LCC. “The number of cycling projects that have been launched in the last year is very exciting and we are keen they get the recognition they deserve.”

Last year’s award winners were a BMX bike “outreach” programme which showed children the skills involved in cycling; Pollards Hill Cyclists, a South London club which encourages new and returning cyclists; a new road scheme for cyclists and pedestrians on Blackfriars Bridge; and a cycling initiative at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Nominations can be made by an organisation involved in a scheme or anyone who considers a project or facility worthy of an award. The awards will be presented at LCC’s AGM on Tuesday October 16 2007.

The criteria for awards is downloadable by clicking on the link on the right. The deadline for nominations is Friday September 21 2007.
