Londoners in the lead at the World Track Championships

Congratulations to Team GB on their spectacular performance at the UNI Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester.

The men’s team, led by London’s Bradley Wiggins, set a gold-medal winning record time of 3 minutes 56.322 seconds in the 4000m Team Pursuit competition on Thursday 27th March, while Victoria Pendleton and Shanaze Read also took gold in the women’s team sprint. Londoner Rebecca Romero, who took up cycling only two years ago after winning a silver medal in rowing at the 2004 Olympics, won the individual pursuit title.

Bradley Wiggins, who started racing at Herne Hill Velodrome when was he was 12, also took gold in the men’s individual pursuit on Wednesday 26th.
