Nearly 50 LCC members from around London attended workshops at LCC head office in March, covering communication skills and putting cycling on the agenda in the elections.

The skill sessions included how best to promote LCC’s cycling manifesto in the elections; how to handle interviews about cycling issues on the radio and well as writing press releases and media monitoring.

LCC Board member with responsible for local groups, Charles Barraball said, "London's cyclists need these skills to be able to represent cyclists positively in the media and to get key commitments for cycling from politicians."

Future workshops will look at building regional group cohesion, as well as creating a new generation of video journalists, and expanding borough newseletters and websites.

The media workshop was most enjoyable and it was great to meet other LCC members. The exercises gave us insight into the most effective ways of promoting cycling in the capital whilst learning how to deal with objections from those who say it's too dangerous to cycle in London!
