We're calling for protected cycle lanes on main roads, quiet cycle routes through Liveable Neighbourhoods, and safe junctions.
2022-2026 is a vital stage in London’s zero-carbon journey. Motor vehicles are the largest and most stubborn source of London’s emissions, and borough councils control 95% of the city’s roads. We need all our councils to act in the next four years and be bold – or it’ll be too late to get to zero carbon roads by 2030. That’s what’s needed for London and Lewisham to do their bit.
That’s why we developed specific, personalised asks for each London borough council in the 2022 council elections to cut road transport emissions fast and enable lots more walking, cycling and wheeling.

“Lewisham Labour has unveiled our ambitious plans to help more people walk and cycle – you can read our full manifesto at https://www.lewishamlabour.com/our-manifesto/.
Since 2018 we’ve made real progress for cycling in Lewisham with 45 new school streets, we have worked with TfL to support Cycleway 4 and introduced 119 new cycle hangars. Over the next four years we will work with TfL to create a long-term vision for cycling in Lewisham and support the development of the ‘Lewisham Spine’. We will expand the availability of cycle hangars and also create a Lewisham Active Travel Fund.”

“We are committed to active travel and healthy streets and we back the 4 demands of Lewisham Cyclists:
We commit to in-depth consultation with residents before changes are made, to encourage support and buy-in from all. Then we’ll monitor results, tune and adapt.
We have exciting proposals including cycle paths and junction treatments on the A21, creating a safe route from Bromley to Lewisham and onto New Cross. This would benefit school and college students, commuters and residents of all ages.
many thanks,
Dorothy Stein – councillor candidate for Ladywell ward with Tim Crossley and Nick Humberstone”
Did they pledge?
I have been using my bicycle in London for many years. I take the ease of mobility for granted. ‘Isn’t it dangerous?… I could never do that’ is often the reaction I get from people who do not cycle. There is a step change in attitude but there is still a long way to go. By becoming a Climate Safe Streets Champion, I can help change this view.
