We're calling on Newham Council to deliver borough-wide Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle friendly connections between them.
Write to your next council leader today - demand rapid and bold changes for people and planet.
2022’s council elections are a vital point in London’s zero-carbon journey. Motor vehicles are the largest and most stubborn source of London’s emissions, and borough councils control 95% of the city’s roads. We need all our councils to act in the next four years and be bold – or it’ll be too late to get to zero carbon roads by 2030. That’s what’s needed for London and Newham to do their bit. That’s why we’re calling on the council’s next leader to commit to cutting road transport emissions fast and enabling lots more walking, cycling and wheeling.
Our Climate Safe Streets Champions are campaigning to make a real difference in their boroughs on action on cycling and climate. We're still looking for a Climate Champion in Newham. If you want to lead the way in Newham to decarbonise its roads by 2030, join us.

“I am very pleased to commit to the five Newham Cyclists’ Asks for the 2022 local elections.
As I can’t afford to run a car, although I can drive, and with public transport fares ever rising, I commute to work by bicycle from home in North Woolwich to Hackney. Walking, wheeling and cycling provision in Newham is disjointed and much improvement is needed to encourage more people to drive less.
Newham has been dragging it’s feet for far too long when it comes to action on the environment and climate change. A Green mayor and Green councillors would change this.”

Thank you for your email to Rokhsana, who is absolutely committed to reducing traffic, making our roads safer and enabling active travel. This was clearly outlined in the Newham Labour manifesto. As you say, this is absolutely in line with the Mayor’s priorities locally and Labour Party policy nationally.
Every borough in London must take action now, to decarbonise London's roads by 2030. Tell your next council leader to commit to the necessary bold action in the next four years. Because if they're not acting now, by 2026 it'll be too late to catch up on the climate crisis!
