We’re building a coalition of businesses to transform the area around one of London's most notorius junctions.
Holborn is one of London’s most notorious junctions. Eight people have been killed cycling here since 2008. In 2022, after repeated London Cycling Campaign protests, we finally saw improvements made. But they don’t go far enough and several places at Holborn remain very dangerous for people on bikes.
We’re calling for a Holborn that isn’t dominated by motor-traffic; that’s safe for people on bikes and on foot; and that’s a pleasant place to stop, meet, eat & drink, and work. This will mean removing the hostile one-way system, and redesigning streets to include protected cycle tracks, safe crossings, and places dedicated to people.

Create Safe Cycle Routes
By creating safe cycle routes, far more people will cycle to and through Holborn, particularly east - west. The routes will also help those already cycling there get to and through the area safely.
Prioritise Pedestrians
Giving priority to people on foot, by improving Holborn’s crossings and pavements, would help change the area from a place people rush through, to a neighbourhood where people can enjoy stopping, meeting, eating & drinking, and working.
Remove The One Way System
Removing the outdated and hostile one-way system will be key to enabling Holborn to flourish; making it less urban race-track and more a place for people.

2013
LCC first protested at Holborn following the deaths of Francis Golding and Alan Neve, some safety improvments at Vernon Place followed.
2018
We protested again when Peter Fisher was killed. Funding was allocated to remove the gyratory but then cut due to the pandemic.
2021
In 2021 LCC protested again, following the death of Dr Marta Krawiec, killed by a left-turning lorry at the junction of Southampton Row and Theobald’s Road. Camden Council and TfL implimented temporary changes at the junction within six weeks.
2022
Just months later, young lawyer Shatha Ali was killed at the junction of Proctor Street and High Holborn. Following a further protest, changes were made to the junction of Southampton Row and Theobald’s Road.
