Croydon loop with Riddlesdown Common, Kings Wood, Croham Hurst
A 14 mile local South Croydon ride with a view. After the regrettably necessary climb to Riddlesdown Common we ride through it and a tree lined track on Dipsley’s Shaw meadow and on to Kings Wood for a ride around. We’ll stop for coffee and a bite before Sanderstead then ride back with a trip downhill through Croham Hurst, which is lovely woodland near central Croydon.
This is basically a gravel ride got to by road. So wider tyres are better. 32mm is the narrowest I can recommend as the track can be bumpy. Once you have climbed to Riddlesdown Common there isn’t much hill for the rest of the ride. That climb is 1500 metres long (not high!) in lowest gear. The first 500m is 7-5% gradient, the next 1000m 4-3% getting easier nearer the top.
We leave from Queens Gardens CR0 1GY at 10am and return there. I can’t easily guess how long we will take. It is a short ride but slow. Lets say back by 2pm.
