Our ride on Sunday 6th October visits Greenwich Market packing in lots of big parks on the way and ends at Canada Water for the Overground to West Croydon.
We ride from Queens Gardens on side roads first to Tooting Bec Common, then Wandsworth Common and straight across to Clapham Common. Then through the Clapham Park district and Brixton side roads to Brockwell Park followed by Dulwich Common, Peckham Rye Park and the atmospheric old Nunhead Cemetery. We reach Greenwich Market via Deptford High Street and take our break there. Anyone who wants to return to Croydon on the Overground can go with me after about an hour and a half in Greenwich. The ride to Greenwich is 19 miles of fairly quick, unimpeded riding and will take 2 1/2 hours. We take Cycleway 4 to Canada Water and that is a couple of miles, 15 minutes at the most.
We will lock our bikes to the parking hoops near Greenwich Market and leave them there while we look around and eat and drink.
There is very little unpaved, gravelly surface and a road bike will be fine if the tyres are not very thin.
Please bring a spare inner tube so as not to have to rely on a donation if you get a puncture. Don’t forget to bring your water bottle.
We leave from Queens Gardens CR0 1GY at 10am and will arrive in Greenwich around 12:30 – 12:45. The Overground line Canada Water to West Croydon is running as usual that day.
