Entrancing beauty on this ride. Starting in central Croydon we soon reach the Wandle Trail and cycle on the wooded and park-strewn Trail to Colliers Wood, where we take to side streets and segregated cycle paths to our lunch stop in Raynes Park.
Then more cycle path to Wimbledon Common where we ride a lovely woodland stretch beside Beverly Brook. Next we cross Richmond Park and stop to enjoy a stroll around the gorgeous Isabella Plantation (there is lots of bike parking and toilets). Finally we cross to the Thames Path and cycle to Richmond and up via Richmond Green to the train station where we catch a train back to East Croydon, changing at Clapham Junction.
This is a very low traffic route suitable for all including less experienced cyclists, however our rides are adults only. Please bring a spare inner tube.
To keep warm enough for cycling in winter you need extra thick socks or wear two pairs, and put on winter shoes. You will need thick windproof gloves too and something to cover your ears that doesn’t muffle your hearing too much. For that I use a stretchy thin breathable snood. My ears would get so cold otherwise. I got one of these in Primark for a couple of pounds and you can buy multi-packs on Amazon for just over a pound each.
