We are having a riverside ride to the Lea Valley and back. We will ride the Lea towpath to Stonebridge Lock where there is a lovely lockside cafe for our lunch and return through Walthamstow Wetlands and Marshes and Hackney Marshes. The whole ride will take in London Fields and Broadway Market, towpaths of Regents Canal and Hertford Union Canal, Victoria Park and Olympic Park, and plenty of River Lea.
It is 20 miles and has around 3 hours of cycling, mostly slow on the towpaths. We will have a lunch break at the Stonebridge Lock Waterside Cafe.
This is a route suitable for road bikes. The canal towpaths are narrow and there will be walkers and other cyclists. If you’re unsure about safely riding the towpaths, this ride is likely not the best choice for you.
Please bring a water bottle. You will need to keep hydrated. Also an inner tube in case of puncture.
The ride uses the Overground to get to the start and back to Croydon. Meet at West Croydon station platform 1 at 10:10 for the 10:18 to Dalston Junction. We will return on the Overground from Shadwell.
The starting point is Dalston Junction Station. If you are meeting us there, rendezvous at 11am in the station passage connecting both entrances.
Please note this ride by Croydon Social Cycling Group is for those aged 16 or over only.
