Hastings Ride

A medium fast training type ride (updated 22/8/2013)
From Orpington Station Approach we will head towards Green St Green and pick up the A21. At the junction with Knockholt we will ride up to Badgers Mount and then down Pole Hill taking a left through Riverhead and on into Sevenoaks. Our first real ‘hill’ of the day.
Once through Sevenoaks we will pick up the A225 then B245 through Hildenborough and into Tonbridge. At Tonbridge we will veer left onto the B2017 towards Five Oak Green. We will skirt Horsmonden then onto Goudhurst.
At Goudhurst we will pick up the A262 for a short while before breaking off for the lovely climb into Hawkhurst. Always a bit of a challenge due to its narrow approach – so care to be taken here. We will stop at the top for a breather!
Once through Hawkhurst we will pick up the B2244 all the way to Sedlescombe. This will include several ‘rolling hills’ but nothing too strenuous. From Sedlescombe we head out to Westfield before cutting back onto the A21 for the last climb of the day into Hastings. Again, care to be taken as the volume of traffic can be quite high. It’s a long climb this one but on an excellent smooth road surface and the best part of the A21 in my opinion.
Our final navigational challenge will take us through Hastings and down to the sea front for a late lunch before jumping on the train back to Orpington.
We’re never too far from a station so if you want (or need) to drop off early it should be possible.
We will get the train back – group saver £11.60 - £15.30 pp depending on numbers; direct service to Orpington takes around 1¼ hours.
