60 miles ride – medium/hard rating due to distance being ridden according to our rides classification in our general ride info here
Not for beginners, as there are no bailout point.
Route is circular and mostly flat over approx 60 miles. A lot of stamina is needed, so bring snacks and drinks as the lunch-stop will be beyond the halfway point at either Lydd or Dungeness (The Pilot Inn, TN29 9NJ · menu: thepilotdungeness.co.uk).
Ride takes us through some gentle wooded hills to where unspoilt countryside in the Garden of England meets the sea! It almost feels as if you are stepping back in time cycling across the Romney Marsh (ancient haunt of smugglers) on to Dungeness (Britain’s only desert and Europe’s largest shingle beach). If you have never visited this unique British landscape you should not miss this. Visit Derek Jarman’s home and garden (Prospect Cottage, https://goo.gl/maps/JW4edigrKFn), the lighthouse and miniature railway.
Leaving Dungeness we will head north along the coast towards Littlestone on Sea, where we will then turn inland towards New Romney, Ivychurch and north towards Ashford, our final stop for our journey home.
If you’ve not ridden with us before please do read our ride information on this link .
Please make sure your bike is prepared with clean brakes, tyres free of debris, and that you are carrying spare inner tubes and some lights.
Final route is TBC, but it will be shared with ride participants (booked via LCC website) in advance of the ride.
