This course is an introduction to the role of Ride Marshal with London Cycling Campaign. It’s suitable for people who would like to get more involved with rides in their local group or with other groups around London. It is also a refresher course for people who are already helping on rides regularly.
This marshal training is also designed specifically to support the upcoming LCC Women’s Network Freedom After Dark ride (Thursday 6 February). If you complete this training, we really hope you will also come along and help marshal the ride!
The training is open to anyone who is considering volunteering as a Ride Marshal with LCC. You don’t need previous experience but you do need to be a competent rider who is confident cycling on the road. You should be able to ride comfortably one handed whilst also manoeuvring around obstacles, communicating and looking all-around. You should have a calm and inclusive manner.
This session will take place outdoors after dark, so please dress appropriately for the weather and bring lights and if possible backup lights. The training is scheduled for 2 hours but may take a little longer to complete. You will need to bring:
Hi-viz clothing and helmets are optional. If you choose to wear a helmet it must be fitted properly.
If you would like to marshal the LCC Women’s Network Freedom After Dark ride and have already received marshal training, sign up instead to attend the online briefing (22nd January) and the rehearsal ride on the 30th January. If you can’t make those, contact the ride leader Mariam through the LCC office by email mike.mcsherry@lcc.org.uk and we’ll make other arrangements for you.
