This Sunday’s ride is on but the picnic is off. Instead we will lunch in Leo Vegan & Vegetarian Cafe in Sydenham, just after halfway along the route. It has been too rainy to sit on the grass and we will eat indoors in this large space which welcomes bikes inside, as the owner told me today.
We will ride the same route through Crystal Palace Park but we won’t have our picnic on this ride. So the route is not changing, just the lunch spot. All else stays the same. Including the date: Sunday 7th July and the time: 10am, Queens Gardens

The original ride description:
After 140 minutes of cycling would it be nice to sit in a lovely big park and picnic on newly bought snacks or street food from a food market in the park? Yes!
There are tree-shaded grassy lawns on either side of the Sunday market avenue in Crystal Palace Park, close to the cafe and well maintained toilet block and bike parking. We will sit there and enjoy a picnic for an hour or so then ride back to Queens Gardens. First we ride through parks and quiet streets for about 140 minutes. We ride through five parks including the Country Park to Beckenham Place Park where we ride its (safe, packed gravel) inner woodland trail and another park before Sydenham Wells Park. All before Crystal Palace. Then picnic. The return ride will first weave past the lake and dinosaurs then downhill back to Croydon in 3/4 of an hour.
There is an event in Crystal Palace Park that day, the 7th. We won’t need to use the part of the park where the music festival is on. All parts we will use are open as usual. The fenced part that is the festival site is on the opposite end of the park. It’s a big park and the whole sports centre is between the end we will be at and the festival site. The festival entrance gates are up there too and we won’t use or be near one of those gates. We will be there about 12:30 to 1:30 or 2:00 and that is quite early for most festival goers. There is no re-admittance so they won’t be wandering around the park after joining the queue.
Start at Queens Gardens CR0 1GY at 10am. Sunday 7th July.
The total time for the ride will be about 4 1/2 hours. Start at 10, back by 2:30.
