Each year LCC hold a competitive hill climb near Highgate Cemetery. We are leading a 22 mile return ride to the event for spectators. If you want to enter the competition you need to go to the LCC website. For those more interested in a gently paced, leisurely ride across to view those struggling to speed uphill -one has to ask why – we will depart from the Wanstead Park Tea hut at 09.30 in the hope of being alongside the competitors around midday. Given the route we need to restrict this to adults only and a smaller number of riders than usual. Sorry about that, but if you find all places booked up, please email so that you can be put on a reserve list. If you book a place and then find you cannot attend, please let us know as soon as you can.
You may prefer to carry your own lunch/refreshments. There are cafes in the area and LCC usually arrange for a food van of some kind to be in the park next to the hill climb route (Swain’s Lane). Please ensure your bike is in good working order and carry a spare inner tube for your size of wheel. We will always do our best to keep you going. There are train alternatives to the route if you would prefer, e.g. The Overground to Gospel Oak. The return timings will have to be flexible but we anticipate being back at Wanstead Park by 16.30/17.00.
