The ride has 2 starting points: first West Croydon station at 10:10 for the 10:18 Highbury & Islington train then Canada Water at 10:45.
This ride is another very watery experience. Setting off from Canada Water we first use the canal path to Russia Dock wood and the Thames. Then follows a Thames Path ride through Greenwich to Woolwich, our halfway point, where we will have lunch. Then we take the quarter hourly free Woolwich ferry to the north bank (foot tunnel and DLR are available if the ferry is not operating on the day, though it does on Sundays every 15 minutes). On the 2nd part of our loop we ride beside the Royal Docks, passing City Airport with runway in view, and the C3 to end our ride at Shadwell station.
We will take the 10:18 Overground from West Croydon to Canada Water.
To meet at Canada Water please gather outside the Library and Theatre building next to the train and tube station, Deal Porter Square, SE16 7AR (you can’t miss it but it won’t be open) at 10:45 for a 10:55 start.
The 17 mile route will take about 2 hours to cycle. With refreshment and comfort stops the ride will end at Shadwell station around 2:15 – 2:45. Canada Water station has a lift from the platform level to the street. Shadwell has a lift and also 25 (wide, straight) steps where bikes must be carried. Trains are every 15 minutes or less. If a plane is taking off or landing at the airport across the dock we’ll stop to watch.
The route is flat and suitable for all bikes. The great majority of it is off-road and no part uses a busy road. This ride are for adults only. Please bring a spare inner tube in case of punctures and a pump if your tire valve is Schrader (short and thick). Bring a water bottle too as we don’t pass a lot of shops along the way.
