Join me for a short 15 mile linear bike ride visiting the pretty villages of Chalfont St Giles, Chalfont St Peter, Seer Green and Jordans set amongst the Chiltern Hills on Saturday 15th September. This ride is short due to my ongoing knee problems and therefore suitable for those new to cycling. The cycle ride will be at a leisurely pace, with a couple of minor hills although mainly flat. We start our ride at 11.10am at Chalfont and Latimer tube station (Met line zone 8), cycling to Chalfont St Peter for a late morning coffee stop at 'Crumbs'. After a gentle climb out of Chalfont St Peter, we cycle along country lanes to the quaker village of Jordans and onto Seer Green where we stop for lunch (approx 13.00) at 'The Three Horseshoes'. There is a village green for those that wish to bring a packed lunch. Drop out at Seer Green station after approx 10 miles. Trains are hourly back to Marylebone at 6 mins past the hour. After lunch we cycle through Chalfont St Giles where we head towards Chorleywood for tea at Rootz cafe before we catch the train home from Chorleywood station at approx 4pm. Chiltern trains from Chorleywood station (Zone 7) to Marylebone at 16 and 46mins past the hour with met trains to Baker Street running more often. Travel arrangements
Meet outside the entrance of Chalfont and Latimer station at 11.10am. I'll meet you at the tube station.
Chalfont and Latimer is a rail and underground station in zone 8 so covered by 60+ oyster cards and freedom passes. It is served by the Metropolitan line - Chesham and Amersham branches. From central London, the easiest route is to catch the Metropolitan line from Baker Street to Chalfont and Latimer. Please note there is no met line from Aldgate to Baker Street due to engineering works. From Baker Street, catch the 10.05 Amersham branch met line which arrives at Chalfont and Latimer at 10.50, or the 10.20 Chesham branch arriving Chalfont and Latimer at 11.05. Alternatively catch the 10.27am Chiltern Line service from Marylebone to Chalfont & Latimer arriving at 10.58.
Bikes are allowed on the Overground, Met, Circle, District, Hammersmith and City underground lines and all above ground sections on other tube lines - see link for details http://content.tfl.gov.uk/bicycles-on-public-transport.pdf For anyone bringing their bike on the car, Chorleywood and Chalfont and Latimer are both on the same branch of the met line. One day travel card zones 1-9, oyster or contactless. Please bring a spare inner tube. Hope to see some of you on the day. Melissa
