London Loves Cycling - Please make a donation to help make it possible for everyone.
Safer streets mean less fear, and more of us choosing to travel by bike. But huge inequalities still exist. Londoners are more likely to cycle if they are male, white, younger, live in higher income households, or live closer to central London.
And millions of us want to cycle but still can’t. Because our streets are still too dangerous; we still feel too vulnerable; or we can’t access a bike.
The time to act is now. By adopting these four pledges London’s mayor can tackle cycling inequalities and barriers head on.
Monthly Car Free Sundays
Bogotá has done it. Paris has too. Car free roads give everyone, especially the most vulnerable, space to build confidence cycling. With that confidence people begin to cycle at other times too.
We’re calling for every London borough to close streets to cars for one Sunday a month.
A Bike For Every Londoner
We aren’t all fortunate enough to have money to buy a new bike. And we aren’t all fortunate enough to live in homes with space to store one.
We’re calling for a suite of solutions that together provide a bike for every Londoner.
Family Safe Cycling In Outer London
Networks of cycle tracks near homes, and neighbourhood-wide improvements, make local cycling safer.
We’re calling for funding so every outer-London borough can transform at least one local centre to be safe for family cycling.
A World-Leading Cycling City Centre
Soho and the West End are globally iconic destinations. By making cycling safe here, we’ll prove it’s possible for every other high street and town centre too.
We’re calling for Soho and the West End to be reimagined, to drastically reduce motor traffic and deliver a world-leading cycling city centre.

These ideas are possible, but they need to be funded. We need to build support for the policies and push the mayor and TfL to ringfence budgets over several years.
Individual boroughs pose major barriers to delivering safe cycling. To make cycling safe for everyone, we need to push every council, especially in outer London, to commit to delivering progress.
Without our dedicated local volunteers, we simply cannot succeed at scale. These people give up their time and we must give them the support they need to deliver safe cycling in every borough.
In 2025 we’ll deliver a major campaign to bust myths, rebut scaremongering, and make sure our united voices are heard loud and clear.
