Every Cyclist Should Make it Home Safely

Please donate to support LCC’s work as we demand faster progress to prevent all cyclist deaths and serious injuries

In recent months London has witnessed yet another spate of cyclist deaths. And while we know LCC’s work has secured huge safety improvements, undoubtedly meaning many lives saved and serious injuries prevented, progress is still not happening fast enough.
Please make a donation to support our work this year, as we commit to stepping up our campaigning, so that every single cyclist makes it home safely, every single day.

People who are killed and injured cycling are simply travelling home from work or visiting friends and loved ones. All while making the simple, environmentally conscious, life affirming decision to travel by bike.

Their deaths occur at central London junctions – often those that have long been known to be lethal. And on local streets – often where councils have been slow to act, or worse, have actively obstructed progress.

London’s mayor has committed to eliminate all serious and fatal collisions by 2041. But that simply won’t be fast enough. Even if it is achieved, it will mean nearly two more decades of lives lost and families torn apart because of collisions that can be prevented.

We’re campaigning for safer cycling on multiple fronts:
Dangerous Junctions

Junctions are where the majority of serious and fatal collision happen. This year we conducted a comprehensive analysis revealing which London junctions need the most urgent action. In 2024 we must move politicians and decision makers to accelerate safety improvements before more people lose their lives at these junctions.

Local Action

Councils control huge swathes of London streets so it’s shocking that many remain wedded to outdated car-centric transport planning. We must support our staff team and volunteers as they push London’s councils to deliver safe cycle routes in every borough.

A City with Cycling at its Heart

In 2024 London elects a new mayor. For any serious candidate, delivering on safer cycling should be simple common sense. Alarmingly though, cycling is being dragged into the culture war. We’ll be campaigning to protect the progress that’s been made, to stop cycling being used as a political football, and to secure ongoing funding for a safe city-wide cycle network.

Every penny you donate will help make our campaigning more effective. Your donation will mean LCC can:
  • Increase awareness of the high levels of public support for investment in cycling, to raise the issue above party politics.
  • Campaign to secure long-term funding, so investment in cycling and active travel is maintained.
  • Develop tools and provide evidence to educate politicians and decision makers so the most dangerous junctions and streets are tackled first.
  • Step up local campaigning to press every borough to deliver their share of a safe city-wide cycle network.
