Share the Joy Turns One

Community cycling fund, in partnership with Lime and LOUD Mobility, celebrates first anniversary.

This July marks one year since LCC, Lime and LOUD Mobility came together to create Share the Joy, a fund dedicated to powering community cycling groups and projects across London.

July also sees the announcement of the successful groups from the fourth round of funding.

In round four, 20 organisations fostering inclusive cycling across 16 London boroughs received a total of £49,450. Recipients include groups like the Haringey Schools Cycling League, Women of Colour Cycling Collective, and Ride For Freedom, among others.

This latest round also brings the total awarded by the Share The Joy fund to £161,678, distributed to over 58 grassroots cycling organisations in its inaugural year.

Grants are awarded to groups and projects that demonstrate potential in one of three key categories…

  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Accessibility & Inclusion
  • Skills & Connectivity

Within these categories, priority is given to projects that support groups currently underrepresented in cycling or those that may face challenges in accessing traditional funding sources.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, an event was held Southwark, featuring a guest panel discussing cycling diversity, the growth of dockless hire and the vital role in increasing cycling and cycling diversity in London the funded organisations play.

The panel featured London Walking & Cycling Commissioner, Dr Will Norman, London Borough of Hounslow Portfolio holder for Environment, Climate Change and Transport, Cllr Katherine Dunne and the Chair of the Women of Colour Cycling Collective, while attendees and representatives of the funded organisations cut a Share The Joy cake.

Speaking at the event, Alice Pleasant, Senior Public Affairs Manager, Lime, said: “One year on since the launch of the fund, we are delighted to be celebrating an incredible year of backing London’s grassroots cycling projects.

“This latest round of funding reflects our continued commitment to encourage more Londoners to get cycling, especially those from underrepresented groups. and we can’t wait to see the continued positive impact of these projects in the next year and beyond.”

LCC CEO, Tom Fyans added: “London loves cycling – and as the network of safe cycle routes and cycle hire expands to more areas of London, more and more Londoners are able to share the joy of cycling.

“Lime’s funding is enabling diverse community projects to help more Londoners to embrace cycling and London Cycling Campaign are proud to help get more of London pedalling.”
