Barking and Dagenham
We’re looking for new group members in Barking and Dagenham!
Do you live in this area? Do you have any spare time to help us develop or be involved in an LCC local group in Barking and Dagenham?
What’s involved?
ORGANISE A MEETING: Could you arrange a regular (bi monthly) meeting for local cyclists to get together? This could be in a local pub, café or community centre.
CALL FOR CHANGE: With other local cyclists, could you arrange to speak to, or meet representatives from the local council to discuss problems for cyclists in the area or make suggestions for improvements? We can offer full support with this from the central LCC office.
ORGANISE A RIDE OR EVENT: Are you a budding ride leader? Or do you organise led rides already? Fancy organising a ride on behalf of Barking & Dagenham Cyclists? This could be a short family friendly ride, or a longer trip. We can help to organise ride leader training and promote the event. Or maybe you’re a skilled bike mechanic who could run a workshop to teach others?

Contact name: Eilidh Murray
Meeting times: Second Wednesday of the month, 7pm
We meet every second Wednesday of the month at 1900h at Islington Town Hall – we’re usually in committee room 3 but check with reception when you arrive. The agenda is sent out a week beforehand and we welcome AOB. We usually head out to a pub or other venue afterwards for a bit of a social. Our monthly Dr Bike sessions are at Sunnyside Community Gardens at 1300 – 1500 and are on the first Sunday of each month. We usually run at least one family and one adult bike ride in the summer; we organise feeder rides to Ride London and big rides for Kidical Mass and take part in local events.
Cycle Islington work with the local council and many community groups to improve the cycling infrastructure in the borough and to promote cycling for everyone of all ages and abilities. Recent work has been heavily focused on LTNs, or People Friendly Streets as they are called here, and we play an active role in Low Traffic Islington, an umbrella group set up to support the roll-out of LTNs across Islington. Other current campaigns include the woeful Network Rail ‘diversion’ on Kingsbury Bridge on CS1 and the key east/west route from Old Street to Clerkenwell Road which remains a death-trap. We always need more volunteers so if you have even an hour a month to spare, come along to one of our meetings to see how you can get involved.
Kensington & Chelsea
Kensington & Chelsea Cycling Campaign represents LCC members and everyone in the borough who wants cycling to be safe and accessible. We would love more active members to get involved! We also work alongside Better Streets for Kensington & Chelsea and share many of their aims. Please get in touch to find out more at kensington@lcc.org.uk.

Newham Cyclists generally meet on the last Monday of the month, incorporating a short ride in the summer months. We always like to work with local partners where that is possible.

Tower Hamlets
Contact name: Oli Rake
Meeting times: Second Wednesday of the month, 7.30pm-9.00pm
Tower Hamlets Wheelers is a friendly and sociable group, and we always welcome new people who want to become involved.
In 2017, we became the founder member of the Better Streets for Tower Hamlets coalition, as we realised that many of the issues that we were campaigning on mattered to everyone, not just those who cycle. Through this coalition, we are working constructively with the Council and their consultants to support the ambitious implementation of the Liveable Streets programme, to create safer, healthier and pleasanter neighbourhoods that encourage active travel and improve the quality of life for residents and businesses.
Alongside campaigning work, we also attend many community events with our Dr. Bike and information stands, and we have a free monthly repair workshop for all comers. We also run some sociable leisure rides, mainly in the summer.

We joined London Cycling Campaign maybe two years ago as a household membership. I love that sense of community. The magazine, the newsletter, the social media, the campaigning team in my area – and it’s brilliant to see that local work really making a difference.
